Joan C. McAfee, age 89, of Spicer, died Tuesday morning, February 12, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following a brief illness.

Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Joan Caesar McAfee was born on April 9, 1929, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Marcel and Elsie (Stevens) Caesar. She was a graduate of Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois and a member of the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed volunteer work and helped to found the Meals on Wheels program in Willmar. A lover of art, Joan initiated a program in the Willmar School system to share her collection of prints, paintings and statues of Madonna’s in Christian art. Joan was a member of the Spicer Garden Club and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Willmar.
She is survived by her four children, Melissa McAfee of Guelph, Ontario (Canada), Dr. Molly McAfee of Evanston, Illinois, Mary (and Lee) Christianson of Spicer, Minnesota, and Phillip (and Susan) McAfee of Rocky River, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Emily Stone of Chicago, Illinois, Edward Stone of Los Angeles, California, Cadence McAfee of Boston, Massachusetts, Steven McAfee of New Orleans, Louisiana, Luke (and Nikkole) Christianson of Talent, Oregon, Lydia Christianson of Spicer, Minnesota, Frances McAfee of Rochester, New York and Rochelle Lea Sward of Crystal, Minnesota. She also leaves behind two cats that were an important part of her life: Big Kitty and Little Kitty.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dr. David Kimbrough McAfee in 2013.
