Sylvia Nelson

Sylvia M. Nelson, age 96, of Willmar, died Thursday evening, Feb. 6, at the Bethesda Heritage Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wed. Feb. 12, at the Calvary Lutheran Church Chapel. Interment will be at Eagle Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church. www.petersonbrothers.com

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kandiyohi County Humane Society or the Rosendale Lutheran Church are preferred.

Sylvia Marie Nelson was born on August 10, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Esther Wallin. She grew up and received her education in Minneapolis. On August 15, 1934, Sylvia was united in marriage to Berger R. Nelson at the Eagle Lake Lutheran Church near Willmar. They lived and farmed south of Rosendale before moving to Grove City in 1970. Sylvia was employed at Jennie-O Foods for many years. In 1999, Berger died and in 2001, she moved to Willmar to live with her daughter, Donna. In June of 2012, Sylvia entered the Bethesda Heritage Center. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Sylvia had a passion for animals, especially cats and dogs. She enjoyed baking treats such as sugar cookies and blueberry cloud desert, flower gardening and playing card games.

She is survived by her four children, Marlene (and Elery) Schueler of Willmar, Donna Jones of Willmar, Dennis (and Mary) Nelson of Mesa, AZ., and Eugene Nelson of Hector; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, besides other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband and one sister.
