Ordell Asmus

April 25, 1930 — January 17, 2014

Ordell P. Asmus, age 83, of Willmar, died Friday, January 17, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military Honors with be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Ordell Paul Asmus was born April 25, 1930, in Morris, Minnesota, the son of Paul and Frieda (Carlson) Asmus. He grew up in Chokio, Minnesota and graduated from Chokio High School. He worked with his father operating the family pool hall business. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served two years during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he returned to work at the family business until 1956 when he began barber college in Fargo, North Dakota.
Ordell married Frances T. Garske on June 15, 1957 in Wisconsin. Ordell worked as a barber while they lived in Jamestown, ND, Big Stone City, SD, and later Ortonville, MN. He retired in 1994 and they moved to Willmar. Ordell was a member of the Church of St. Mary, where he was active with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post #167 in Willmar.
Ordell is survived by his wife, Frances; six children; Rachelle (and Robert) Somerville of Willmar, Brian (and Julie) Asmus of Willmar, Keith (and Chris) Asmus of Little Falls, Lorri (and Ronald) Kotzenmacher of Willmar, Ronald Asmus of Willmar, and Darwin Asmus of Ortonville; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cherry (and Jerry) Tinquist of Cohasset, Vickie Henrikson of Washington, D.C., and Pamela (and Allan) Schroden of Fergus Falls; a brother-in-law, Robert Dierks of Chokio; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Yvonne Dierks; and a son-in-law, Greg Antony.
