Mary Svobodny

August 14, 1920 — November 19, 2014

Mary M. Svobodny, age 94, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, November 19, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Daughters of Isabella Rosary Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Mary M. Svobodny was born on August 14, 1920, in Parkston, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Anna (Hebaus) Kotzenmacher. She grew up and received her education in Parkston, South Dakota. In 1935, she moved with her parents to a farm near Willmar. In 1938, Mary was united in marriage to Raymond Svobodny. They lived and farmed in Roseland Township until 1968 when they moved into Willmar. Mary was a member of the Church of St. Mary and was active with the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of the Kandiyohi County Historical Society and the Willmar Area Senior Citizens. Mary was a volunteer at Heartland Community Action and with the Daffodils program for the American Cancer Society. Her hobbies included quilting, cooking, playing card games, flower gardening and visiting with her family and friends. Mary was a faithful Catholic.
She is survived by three sons, Robert (and Beverly) Svobodny of Granite Falls, Thomas (and Jayne) Svobodny of Willmar and Gary (and Jean) Svobodny of Willmar; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Also surviving is one sister, Betty (and Oscar) Sjoquist of Coon Rapids and one sister-in-law, Adeline Kotzenmacher of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents,; her husband, Raymond in 1991; four brothers, John, William, Math and Joe; three sisters, Julie, Rose and one sister in infancy; and one great-great-grandson, T.J.
