Marceline Stone

December 4, 1922 — April 28, 2017

Marceline "Marcie" I. Garner Stone, age 94, of Atwater and formerly of Two Harbors, died Friday morning, April 28, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. www.petersonbrothers.com

Marceline Ione Garner Stone was born on December 4, 1922, in Pennock, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Larsen) Helmer. She grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School. Following graduation, Marcie moved to Bremerton, Washington to work in the Navy shipyards. In 1941, Marcie was united in marriage to George Garner and they made their home in the Atwater community. Marcie worked as a bookkeeper at Broman Oil Company and as a secretary at the Atwater Public Schools. In 1973, they moved to Two Harbors and owned and operated the Rustic Inn Café. In 1991, George passed away. In 1993, Marcie was married to Theodore Stone and they lived in Arizona. While living in Arizona, she was employed at Fry's as a greeter. In 2012, they moved to Atwater and Theodore passed away later that year. Marcie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed all types of sports but especially was a Minnesota Timberwolves fan. Her hobbies included playing card games and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her three children, Sandy Edwards of Atwater, Jeff (and Bonnie) Garner of Two Harbors and Ron (and Kathy) Garner of Atwater; three grandchildren, Michael Garner, Emily Wilson and Joel Edwards; six great grandchildren, Kayla, Krystal, Hunter, Lily, Joey and Quinn and one great great granddaughter, Kya. Also surviving is one brother, Ronald (and Sally) Helmer of Brainerd and two sisters, Ramona Whipps of New Prague and Donna Anderson of Arizona, besides other relatives and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two sisters, Sally Stavos and Beverly Welch; one brother, Michael Helmer and one grandson, James Garner.
