James Halvorson

June 29, 1952 — September 13, 2014

James R. Halvorson, age 62, of Atwater, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, September 13, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 20, at the ACGC High School Theater in Grove City.  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12 Noon on Saturday, September 20, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Immanuel Lutheran Church, ACGC School Foundation or the Humane Society of Kandiyohi County. James Robert Halvorson was born on June 29, 1952, in Bemidji, MN, the son of Robert and Viola (Jacobson) Halvorson.  He grew up in Tenstrike, graduated from Blackduck High School in 1970 and graduated from Bemidji State University with a major in teaching (math) and with a minor in computer science.  James spent his early years helping his uncle Richard Jacobson on his farm.  James' first teaching position was in Ada, MN in 1974, where he taught math and computers and coached Jr. High football.  While teaching in Ada, he met his wife, Connie who was also a teacher.  On June 18, 1977, James was married to Connie L. Thompson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater, MN.  They moved to Mason City, Iowa where James taught Jr. High math.  In 1980, they moved to Litchfield, MN where James also taught Jr. High math.  In 1981, they moved to Atwater where Jim started teaching math and computers and continued to teach and work at Atwater, A-G C and ACGC through his death.  James has been known as the "tech guru" and this year that was his primary role at the school.
James was a long time active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater where he has been the financial secretary since 1987 and has assisted with the Audio/Visual, mowing and many other projects.  He was also a member of the Atwater Lions Club and the ACGC Administrative Team.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie of Atwater and two children, Joshua Halvorson (and fiancé, Paula Ulicsni) of Duluth and Jessica Halvorson of Atwater, besides many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
