Gaylon Olson

Gaylon W. Olson, age 71, of Atwater, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, February 3, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be at the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 8, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Gaylon Wayne Olson was born on May 3, 1944, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Edwin Oliver and Hattie Rose (Isaacson) Olson. He grew up and received his education in the Spicer community. In 1962, Gaylon entered the U.S. Army and served stateside during the Viet Nam conflict. On April 2, 1966, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar, he was united in marriage to Judy Ann Miller and they made their home in Spicer. In April of 1970, they moved to Diamond Lake. Gaylon was employed for over 50 years in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, retiring in 2012. Most recently he was employed at Martin Marietta in St. Cloud. He was a member of the Local 49 Union in Minneapolis and was a life member of the Spicer American Legion Post. Gaylon's hobbies included hunting, fishing, landscaping, being outdoors and tinkering with various projects.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Atwater; two sons, Rick Olson of Spicer and Kelly Olson of Kandiyohi; one brother, Lonnie (and Sharon) Olson of Spicer and one sister, Darlene (and Charles) Gallagher of Port Charlotte, FL., besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Merrill Olson.
