Elnore Elsie Kostad was born on June 1, 1924 in Lakeshore Township, Lacqui Parle County, Minnesota, the daughter of Augusta (Goetsch) and Otto Paul Zahnow. She grew up in the Marietta community and received her education. Elnore married Spencer Kostad on September 30, 1943 and they made their home in the Marietta area. They later moved to Dawson, MN and then to Willmar in 1950. From this union, Elnore and Spencer had 4 children: Curtis. Diane, Lavonne and David
Elnore was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church since moving to Willmar. For many years she and her best friend, Ruth Guptill, would make beautiful candles to sell at a booth at the annual Vinje Lutheran Holiday Bazaar. She loved fishing, watching TV game shows, watching her Minnesota Twins! She also loved to play cards, especially with her very special friends, Lloyd and Caroline Brandt. But her greatest love was her family. She was also everyone's support and strength, even when times were so difficult for her.
Elnore is survived by two daughters, Diane (and Dave) Swanson of Cold Spring and Lavonne (and Kim) Schow of Willmar. Also surviving are two grandchildren (Jennifer Schow (and fiancé Robert Champagne) and Matthew (and Dana) Schow, 2 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Gertrude Zahnow of St. Michael, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Spencer Milton Kostad in 1986), two sons (Curtis in 1959 and David in 1989), two sisters; Hertha Zahnow and another in infancy, and five brothers; Rudolf, Ernest, Herbert, Emil and Elmer - her twin.
