Alan Lee Midby, age 63, of Spicer, died unexpectedly, Monday morning, August 22, at his residence in Spicer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Military honors will be provided by the Henderson-Lewis American Legion Post #545. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with a public Masonic service at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 29, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Masons for Diabetic Youth are preferred.

Alan Lee Midby was born on February 28, 1953, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Davis) Midby. He grew up in Spicer and graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1971. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1971 to 1991, stationed in the United States, Germany, The Netherlands and Greece. On October 7, 1974, in Germany, Alan was married to Yolanda Kaui Balanon. He attended the Willmar Community College and earned an AA degree in Criminal Justice. Alan was employed for many years as a bus driver with Peterson Bus & Palmer Bus Service and drove the KAT bus. Alan was active in numerous fraternal organizations such as the Sharon Masonic Lodge, the Scottish and York Rites, Zuhrah Shrine Temple, Willmar Area Shrine Club and the Fidelity Chapter of the Eastern Star. He was an active member of the Spicer American Legion Post #545, serving as Past Commander and on the Military Honor Guard team. He was volunteer with the Spicer E.M.T., the Spicer Fire Department, as a Firearms Safety Instructor and as a volunteer Santa Claus. Alan enjoyed riding his motorcycle in parades with the Willmar Area Shrine Club, hunting and being helpful to others, especially children.

He is survived by his wife, Yolanda of Spicer; one son, Thor (and Zerlyn) Midby of Arlington, TX., and two grandchildren, Kaithlyn and Ethaniel Midby. Also surviving is his mother, Betty Midby of New London and three siblings, Shirley King of Cypress, CA., Charles Midby of Spicer and Terry (and Lillian) Midby of Sacramento, CA., besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.
